The Complete Pokémon Movie Collection
On November 28, 2025, German publisher Polyband released the limited-edition collection “Pokémon – Die kompletten Filme”, bringing together all 23 Pokémon movies in one collector’s edition. I was involved in several aspects of creating this special box set, contributing to its concept, editorial content and graphic design. I also played a part in making something possible that is particularly significant for fans of the 5th Pokémon movie.
My Work on the Movie Collection
Throughout the project, I supported Polyband with the development and design of the collector’s edition. My contributions included the outer packaging, the individual movie sleeves, a postcard, as well as the idea and design for the included certificate. I also wrote all the editorial content for the 48-page booklet. As is common with official Pokémon releases, the materials went through several rounds of feedback, revisions and approvals during production.
I was especially happy to see my involvement reflected in the finished product. My name and the podcast’s website are credited on the back of the booklet. The certificate even features the “Miauz Genau!” logo alongside Polyband’s, giving the podcast its own little place in an official Pokémon product.
The Story Behind the Color Correction
One particularly interesting story behind the collection involves “Pokémon Heroes”, the 5th Pokémon movie, originally released in 2002. For more than two decades, the film was only available in the West with a noticeable blue tint, making many scenes look significantly different from the original Japanese release.
In 2024, I brought this issue to Polyband’s attention and provided comparison images to demonstrate the differences. My concerns were taken seriously, and the responsible product manager began looking into obtaining a version with the original colors. In April, I learned that this would likely take some time. As it turned out, according to The Pokémon Company International, no suitable corrected version was available at that point, meaning one had to be created specifically in response to Polyband’s request.
We also covered the film’s color issues on the podcast. In Episode 153, “Wächter der Wasserstadt”, released on June 16, 2025, Lucas and I took an in-depth look at “Pokémon Heroes” and discussed just how much the colors differ between the two versions.
By September 2025, it was finally looking likely that Polyband would receive the corrected material. The decision was then made to include both color versions on the same disc. I remained involved in the process and also contributed to how the two versions would be presented to viewers. Among other things, the German menu labels “Original Bildversion” (Original Picture Version) and “Alternative Bildversion” (Alternative Picture Version), which were ultimately used on the disc, came from my suggestions.
When the collection was released on November 28, 2025, “Pokémon Heroes” became available in the West with its original colors for the very first time.
For me, this collection brings together two things that have been a big part of my life for many years: my passion and love for Pokémon and my work as a graphic designer. A huge thank you to Polyband and Matthias Süß for our many years of collaboration and for the trust they placed in me throughout this project.
